Ego
Granted, the name is a bit of a giveaway itself. Peter’s father may be a god (“lowercase ‘g’, son” he says), but the guy still has some issues.
What could a god possibly be hungry for? More of himself, apparently. Why, we learn that not only is Ego Kurt Russell, but he’s his very own planet—one he built out of himself over millions of years. Maybe he figures that the more of him there is to love, the more lovable he is.
But this planet of his is almost completely devoid of life apart from him. He has only one companion, the empath Mantis, and he keeps her around for fairly selfish reasons. Beyond that, the Ego’s planetary self is home to no people. No animals. Nothing apart from him. What does he need to feed? Well, his own, well, ego.
