I’ve been a dad for 18 days now and I gotta say… it’s pretty awesome. To know that Catherine and I are in charge of raising this sweet boy, is a super humbling feeling. I really can’t describe how I feel about this whole fatherhood thing. And to be honest, I’m not sure it’s fully sunk in that I’m a dad. But I can say that I’m in love with Samuel and I’m going to try my absolute best not to screw him up too bad. (Thankfully Catherine is here to help with that.)

I thought it’d be fun to share some of my favorite things about being a dad. Here’s number one:

Catherine has grown accustomed to a routine lately. She wakes up and feeds Samuel around 2:30am and then again around 5:30am. After that 5:30 feeding, Catherine lays Samuel on my chest and we sleep for a couple more hours. It starts with Samuel laying down with his chest on my chest and after an hour or so, I’ll lay his little head on my arm and he nestles closely to my side.

This was what I always told Catherine I looked forward to the most- my boy sleeping soundly on my chest. Now it’s a reality and we do it every morning. There’s something indescribable about the feeling it gives me to have my boy sleeping so peacefully on my chest. I can’t think of a better way to start my day. And I’m confident I will look back at this time when he’s a teenager and long for these days.

I’m soaking them up now because I know they won’t last long.
