Pretty much our parenting style summed up in a picture.

On Facebook, someone mentioned in a comment that she had a question she wanted answered: How did we come up with our baby’s name?

If you know us, you know that Catherine and I are not planners. We normally take things a day at a time and that suits us just fine. So you might be surprised to hear that we came up with the name Samuel Thomas over three years ago.

After our season of The Bachelor, we were only able to see each other every couple of weeks when the show would fly us to LA for a “Secret Weekend.” These weekends were full of watching movies, eating food, and doing what we do best- being goofy together.

It was during one of these weekends that Catherine thought it would be fun to come up with potential baby names. We came up with dozens of names, some normal and some very abstract. But when we came up with Samuel Thomas, we both agreed it was a strong, classic name that we both liked. On top of that, Catherine’s parents had mentioned that she would have been named Samuel had she been a boy and she had a great grandfather named Samuel too. We added the Thomas because not only is that my middle name, it’s also both of my grandfather’s names.

We came up with our perfect name three long years ago. We didn’t tell a soul — not even our families. Samuel’s name wasn’t revealed until he came into this world on July Second at 3:45 A.M. We first told our delivery doctor and soon after that, we were able to reveal it to our family and friends.

So what was our girl name had we not had a boy? We’re not telling. You’ll have to wait until we have girl some day.
