A photograph of two heroes who are recovering at Walter Reed Medical Center this week has gone viral, as one of the two is not your average patient.

One is a U.S. soldier and the other is a military service dog named Rocky.

SPC Brown and canine Rocky were both injured by an IED in Afghanistan, and now Walter Reed Medical Center is letting the pair recover in the same hospital room.  It’s great that our Armed Forces lets soldiers and service dogs fight for freedom together and then recuperate together when injured. I’m sure both SPC Brown and Rocky are enjoying recovery a lot more this Christmas season by continuing to spend time together at Walter Reed.

The 89th Military Police Brigade’s Facebook page gave an update on the duo.

SPC Brown and Rocky are both doing well after being treated for injuries they suffered from an IED blast earlier this week while searching a structure in support of ongoing operations in Afghanistan. They are both very thankful for your thoughts and prayers and are in the process of heading back home. SPC Brown arrived early this morning to Walter Reed where he was met by his waiting family, and Rocky is expected to return to Fort Hood in the coming weeks. Please remember them, as well as all our Soldiers deployed around the world, during the holiday season. Proven in Battle!

As I have shared before, the sacrifice of both soldiers and service dogs alike deserves our utmost respect and gratitude. I am thankful for the service of both SPC Brown and Rocky. Let’s all pray for a speedy recovery for both heroes!
