The Lowes go to the Emmys

The Lowes go to the Emmys September 2, 2014

As I was putting on my tux – the same suit I wore when I got married, I looked into the mirror and just laughed.
“Who gets to do this?” I thought.

I thought it again when I saw my red hot smokin’ hot wife who’s stone cold fox, Catherine, in her gorgeous black dress.

“Ready to go to the Emmy’s?” I said, extending my arm.

As a reality television personality, I won’t call myself a star — because I’m not.  However, I was particularly humbled to be a part of the Emmys – the awards given out by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for the best acting and shows on television.

Isn’t it a great time to watch tv?  It wasn’t that long ago when movie stars would never think of doing mere television shows. Now, someone with the skills of Kevin Spacey is doing a show for Netflix!

Television as a whole has increased viewer experience through HD filming, bigger and better sets as well as picture and sound quality. In fact, sports attendance is down largely in part to the excellent television product the NFL and the other sports offer.

Cable TV networks like AMC, HBO and Showtime have poured tens of millions of dollars into producing big budget shows and investing millions into A-list actors.

Twelve 1 hour episodes allows for much greater character and plot development.

With the advent of on-demand and Netflix, binge watching is changing the way we watch television. We now spend weekends at a time binging on our favorite shows.

If you haven’t binge watched a show, you haven’t really watched television lately.  Catherine and I have binged watched: Breaking Bad, Homeland, The Killing, Game of Thrones (definitely not family friendly), Fargo, House of Cards, and True Detective. (Watch out!!  You don’t want this to happen!)

With the rising price in movie tickets and concessions, it’s so much easier to sit at home on the couch and watch TV instead of spending $50 at the movies.  Plus, I don’t have to listen to the kids next to you chomping on popcorn.  (Confession: Catherine has to listen to me eat pizza though.)

The Emmys were as dazzling as you might imagine they would be. Catherine and I were only 10 or 12 rows behind major A-list actors like Kevin Spacey, Julia Roberts and Matthew McConaughey!  I couldn’t believe it.  (Want to see four more picture of us at the Emmys?  Click here!)

When I’m places like this, I always am aware of the score – I’m a regular guy who gets to do amazing things…

And I’m thankful.

Not only for Catherine, who is an amazing friend to have by my side, but also for all of you who loved me enough on the show to propel me into seat like the ones we had at the Emmy’s.

Thanks!
