How to get a "Master Key" to open all life's doors.

How to get a "Master Key" to open all life's doors. February 13, 2013

When I was a kid in school, we were all mesmerized by the janitor, because not only did he have a sweet handlebar mustache, he also had a giant ring of keys that gave him full access to every room in the entire building. The reason he had all the keys was simple…he was there to serve. It was his job to leave every place better than he found it, so he was given free reign to do his work.

Doors open for those who serve.

As a grownup, I’ve seen that those who have the “keys” to life are still the ones who are willing to serve. When you make it your mission to leave every person and every place a little better than you found them, you will find yourself gaining access to new opportunities that you never dreamed possible. You will also gain the trust and admiration of the people in your life.

Here are a few simple ways to step up your serving:

1. Do thoughtful and practical acts of generosity whenever you have the opportunity.

2. Be selfless. As I’ve heard it said, “Don’t think less of yourself; just think of yourself less!

3. Never let foolish pride rob you of the joy that comes through serving.

4. Leave every person and every place a little better off than you found them.

These principles are timeless and true, but don’t take my word for it. Let me leave you with the words of Jesus who was the greatest servant (and leader) who ever lived. The “Master Keys” to life are found in the “Master’s” teachings…

“But Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them.  But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant,  and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave.  For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Matthew 20:25-29
