High school senior rescues girl with deployed dad

They missed the notice that it was Parent’s Day on the field where Dads were supposed to lift their cheerleader daughters onto their shoulders. Unfortunately, Addie Rodriguez’s father had deployed the day before for military training in CA and therefore couldn’t fulfill his role. When senior Matthew Garcia noticed Addie crying and standing alone on the track, he sprinted to her rescue, vaulting over a fence and asking her if he could help her. He lifted her onto his shoulder alongside all the other cheerleaders and their fathers.

“And then I realized what he was doing and my heart just melted. It was just the most beautiful thing,” shared Addie’s mother.

“I just felt like somebody saved my life. I thought that was so nice. Especially since my dad is serving for us,” said Maddie.

Wow Matthew, that was quick thinking and seriously the sweetest gesture!
