Bill Perkins is one of my favorite authors. Not only is his prose a joy to read, but he also handles heavy topics with a light touch.

His latest book, “Why Naked Women Look So Good,” exposes a subject men think about 24/7, but which feels unholy for us to discuss. Perkins handles this taboo subject with gentleness and grace, pointing us back to the garden of intimacy that is still available to couples who approach sexuality God’s way.

Perkins is the latest author to go straight-to-Ebook, which means you pay less per book (it’s just $4.99 at Amazon.com.) Here’s a brief excerpt.

This book was birthed on a sultry Friday night in south Texas while I was turning on my sprinklers. Because of an extended drought, the city only allowed grass watering between midnight and six in the morning. It did little to affect my life, though, since I’m a night owl.

As I walked out of my house and across my backyard, I noticed light coming from my neighbor’s home and wondered, why are they up so late? Hoping to find out, I approached the fence and looked through a gap in the wooden slats. I expected to see a few people playing cards or watching TV. Instead I saw a beautiful woman talking on the phone. No big deal—if she had been dressed. But she wasn’t.

My eyes locked. Adrenaline and dopamine drenched my brain, triggering pleasure and excitement.

Suddenly I had a flashback. I was a kid, playing on the swing set in my backyard in Roswell, New Mexico. As I swung up and down under a star-filled sky, I noticed a light turn on in my sister’s bedroom twenty feet away. A moment later, one of her friends, a senior in high school, walked in front of the window and began undressing. She stood there, naked, for only a second, and then lowered the blinds.

On that balmy night in Texas, I wasn’t a kid. I was a thirty-year-old pastor with a gorgeous wife and two sons . . . and . . . and . . . and I thought, What am I doing?

I tore myself away from the fence and staggered to my back door, curious why the form of a human body—a nude woman—would affect me so powerfully. A question, oddly enough, I had never considered.

Perkins spends the rest of the book contemplating that question. His conclusions will help you work through your own challenges with purity of eye and mind.

The book gives eight reasons men find women attractive. Each reason reveals a need in the women that only her husband can meet. Perkins shows a man how the sexual energy created by attraction to his wife can enable him to love her better. The book is cleverly illustrated by artist Robert Falcone.
